The Ironton native was born March 29, 1919, the daughter of the late
John and Clara Miller Lavender. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Carlos W.
"Woody" Bayes, Sr.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Ironton, and graduated
from St. Joseph High School as a member of the class of 1937.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Carlos
W. "Buddy" Bayes, Jr. and two brothers, Johnny and Bill Lavender.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet B. and
Edward Wooten of Liberty, Tenn., Joyce B. Lester of Ironton and Bonnie
B. and Andrew Kelley of Kitts Hill; 13 grandchildren; 17 great
grandchildren and a brother, Lawrence "Larry" Lavender of Ironton.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
Father Thomas Nau officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ironton, or Hospice of Huntington, W. Va.
There will be no visitation. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
